The Power of Positive Thinking

Key Point
You are what you think. You feel what you want.

Why Think Positively?

All of our feelings, beliefs and knowledge are based on our internal thoughts, both conscious and subconscious. We are in control, whether we know it or not.

Aim high and do your best

We can be positive or negative, enthusiastic or dull, active or passive.

The biggest difference between people is their attitudes. For some, learning is enjoyable and exciting. For others, learning is a drudgery. For many, learning is just okay, something required on the road to a job.

"Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be."
- Abraham Lincoln

Our present attitudes are habits, built from the feedback of parents, friends, society and self, that form our self-image and our world-image.

These attitudes are maintained by the inner conversations we constantly have with ourselves, both consciously and subconsciously.

The first step in changing our attitudes is to change our inner conversations.

What Should We Be Saying?

One approach is called the three C's: Commitment, Control and Challenge.

Commitment
Make a positive commitment to yourself, to learning, work, family, friends, nature, and other worthwhile causes. Praise yourself and others. Dream of success. Be enthusiastic.

Control
Keep your mind focused on important things. Set goals and priorities for what you think and do. Visualize to practice your actions. Develop a strategy for dealing with problems. Learn to relax. Enjoy successes. Be honest with yourself.

Challenge
Be courageous. Change and improve each day. Do your best and don't look back. See learning and change as opportunities. Try new things. Consider several options. Meet new people. Ask lots of questions. Keep track of your mental and physical health. Be optimistic.

Studies show that people with these characteristics are winners in good times and survivors in hard times.

Research shows that,

"... people who begin consciously to modify their inner conversations and assumptions report an almost immediate improvement in their performance. Their energy increases and things seem to go better ..."

Commitment, control and challenge help build self-esteem and promote positive thinking. Here are some other suggestions.

7 Suggestions for Building Positive Attitudes

  • In every class, look for positive people to associate with.
  • In every lecture, look for one more interesting idea.
  • In every chapter, find one more concept important to you.
  • With every friend, explain a new idea you've just learned.
  • With every teacher, ask a question.
  • With yourself, keep a list of your goals, positive thoughts and actions.
  • Remember, you are what you think, you feel what you want.

Mails that are Forwarded

I like to browse various web sites, where I use to read various interesting things, or found many useful things. The one I like most or the one which is useful for some one else or like to share, I forward that stuff to my contacts.

I like to share things. I never try or like to take the advantage alone. I like to spread the word, so every one can take the advantage.

If someone don't like the forwards, they are welcomed to tell me that he/she don't like the forwarded mails.

If anyone of you want interesting forwards (not everyday, depends when I get the good stuff), they can mail me any time.

Those who would like to be my friends only, can also contact me.

Don't Follow the Follower

by Earl Nightingale

95 percent of people never succeed because they're following the wrong group

Processionary caterpillars travel in long, undulating lines, one creature behind the other. Jean Hanri Fabre, the French entomologist, once lead a group of these caterpillars onto the rim of a large flowerpot so that the leader of the procession found himself nose to tail with the last caterpillar in the procession, forming a circle without end or beginning.

Through sheer force of habit and, of course, instinct, the ring of caterpillars circled the flowerpot for seven days and seven nights, until they died from exhaustion and starvation. An ample supply of food was close at hand and plainly visible, but it was outside the range of the circle, so the caterpillars continued along the beaten path.

People often behave in a similar way. Habit patterns and ways of thinking become deeply established, and it seems easier and more comforting to follow them than to cope with change, even when that change may represent freedom, achievement, and success.

If someone shouts, "Fire!" it is automatic to blindly follow the crowd, and many thousands have needlessly died because of it. How many stop to ask themselves: Is this really the best way out of here?

So many people "miss the boat" because it's easier and more comforting to follow — to follow without questioning the qualifications of the people just ahead — than to do some independent thinking and checking.

A hard thing for most people to fully understand is that people in such numbers can be so wrong, like the caterpillars going around and around the edge of the flowerpot, with life and food just a short distance away. If most people are living that way, it must be right, they think. But a little checking will reveal that throughout all recorded history the majority of mankind has an unbroken record of being wrong about most things, especially important things. For a time we thought the earth was flat and later we thought the sun, stars, and planets traveled around the Earth. Both ideas are now considered ridiculous, but at the time they were believed and defended by the vast majority of followers. In the hindsight of history we must have looked like those caterpillars blindly following the follower out of habit rather than stepping out of line to look for the truth.

Have Control Over Your Life

by: Kenia Morales

If there is a possibility that you are feeling disappointed with the out come of your life in general or only in specific areas. Then I will tell you that at least part of the outcome is your fault.

Unless, we are talking about circumstances where you have little or no control over them, an example of this would be your medical health, traumatic experiences etc. However, if this is not the case then you do have something to do with it. If you are struggling with your finances then you are probably not managing your finances efficiently. The same principle can be applied to other areas of your life.

Although, Life in general is never going to be perfect there are certain things that you can do in order to prevent too many dreams from turning sour. In case you are wondering what that is read below:

 Sit down to think about what you want from life

 Write down your goals once you have identified them

 Create a plan to accomplish your objective

This approach can be used in any area of your life (love, career, etc.) But, always remember in order to live a life similar to what you would like it to be; you must plan every step of the way before you can turn your dream in to a reality.

Wish you the best,

Inspiration

It's not that I was intending to send e-cards this morning. I was just cleaning out the urls stored in my browser favorites, while simultaneously wondering what I'd blog about today……..

……when I came across this site called StoryPeople, (www.StoryPeople.com) and thought, what a cool place to find some inspiration.

Then I realized: Inspiration is all around us, all the time. Most of us tend to ignore it, but it's everywhere. The word inspire literally means to breathe in the spirit. We have to take it in, and this means we have to be open, receptive, waiting, allowing, unhurried and undistracted by our mental chatter, emotional tapes, and unconscious behavioral habits.

Becoming inspired isn't difficult; it's magic. It's allowing the energetic spirit of something to change your consciousness. It's shifting your focus, gifting yourself with a different perspective, stregthening your lifeforce.

Close your eyes, and take a deep breath right now. Allow your eyes to open with a soft gaze. Breathe in the spirit of the view out your window, or the cyclmen in your living room, or the sound of crows nearby. What's waiting to inspire you today? What's wanting to be taken in by you, to become a part of your spirit?

Learning To Recognize Your Ego

By Sonia Devine

Learning To Recognize Your Ego

Is your self image controlling your life? Do you often worry about what others think of you? Learn to recognize the ego, and find out the difference between who you thing you are and who you REALLY are.

What is an ego?

Well, in case you didn't know it, we all have one. The ego is the logical rational part of your mind that allows you to separate yourself from other people. You use it each and every day to weigh up situations, people and circumstances in the process of making rational decisions. When I say "I am Sonia Devine", I am identifying with this part... MY ego.

Sometimes the Ego is associated with an inflated sense of pride or arrogance. As an example, when we talk about a person who is behaving arrogantly, people often say this person has a "huge Ego".

But it's a lot more than that. It has a definite purpose. It is responsible for organizing the different elements of the Self to create some wholeness and integration. All of us require this to function effectively as human beings.

So how does this fit in with your self esteem? When we focus too much on this part, we begin to become separated from the rest of humanity, and outside forces have more control over us.

For example, does the quality of your self image rely on any of the following?

- How much money you have - What you do for a living - Who you know - How you look - Where you live - What kind of car you drive

If you are defined by what you do for a living, then your self esteem is at the mercy of this factor. So if you lose your job, where does this leave you? Would you still like and respect yourself if you were broke?

It is within your nature to be conditioned to go after these superficial achievements, but I'll let you in on a secret; they have absolutely nothing to do with who you are! You're so much more than your physical body. Your soul is perfect just as it is, and it will continue to live on after you exit the Earth.

All of us are connected by collective consciousness. When you are able to see past the ego, you learn to cultivate true self-reliance. You accept yourself as the perfect being that you are AT THIS VERY MOMENT - not for who you will be once you have had your hair fixed or gotten in with the right crowd.

When you can get past the ego, you experience true self love - and this comes from your higher wisdom. Your knowledge, your compassion, your strength are perfect - and these things are permanent.

What I think about the Reading?

I thank BAGEPALLI SRIRAMADESIKAN SRINIVASAN for giving the reading of my hand in July.

I like the reading. With some of that, I was familar, but many new things also discover.

I will try to figure out what is going wrong in my life so I make it right.

He said, "
Somehow I get a feeling that a good hand has been spoiled by wrong attitude. "

I think I agree with him because there was the little bit of difference in both my hands.

I will try to change that and again try to get the reading and in more detail.

About my Hand Reading

Posted by BAGEPALLI SRIRAMADESIKAN SRINIVASAN - at http://www.sunsigns.org

The hand is more towards spatulate type indicates restless nature, excitable but full of energy and enthusiasm. If hand is soft and flabby it denotes restlessness but irritable spirits, working in fits and starts and you cannot stick to anything.

The hand shows intense love of action in the domain of ideas and invention.

Finger of saturn appears predominant with all the fingers leaning towards it. This shows predominance of seriousness and morbidity.

The long finger of sun points towards desire for speculation and craving for notoriety.

The first phalanges of fingers are long -indicate love of idealism in all things.

The firm jointed thumb shows more practical bent of mind, strong will, stubborn determination, strong character, more cautious and secretive nature, advancement by slow steps, rule with strength and keen sense of justice. Waist like second phalange indicates tact born of mental power.

Life line and line of head joined together at the commencement indicates sensitive, nervous temperament and excess of caution. Small hair lines descending from life line show loss of vitality throughout life.

The line of head is straight in the first half and sloping then onwards indicates balance between purely imaginary and purely practical, level headed, commonsense way of working even while dealing with imaginative things. The chain like formation shows want of fixity of ideas and indecision.

The chained line of heart points to weakness and changeability of affections and as it bends towards line of head affections are marred by logic and reason.

Line of fate rising from line of life at the age of 25 indicates personal merit will be responsible for success and riches. There is a strong influence of another person at the age of 28 or so. A blunder at age of 35 hinders the career and then onwards only hard work will keep you going.

Line of health touching the line of life indicate health problems in old age.

Girdle of venus-it appears to run into line of marriage. Shows highly sensitive, intellectual, sensual nature, changeable in moods, easily offended and touchy over little things. Happiness is marred by peculiarities of temperament, exacting nature and it will be hard to live with you for your wife. You will want as many virtues in your wife as there are stars in the universe.

Somehow I get a feeling that a good hand has been spoiled by wrong attitude.
